Pride Month 驕傲月

What is Pride Month?

Pride Month is a month in June every year when the LGBTQIA+ community (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual/Agender) celebrates sexual/gender diversity.

The idea behind Pride Month is to promote self-acceptance, equal treatment, inclusion and tolerance of the LGBTQIA+ community, and aims to draw attention to sexual/gender diversity from all walks of life.

The origin of Pride Month (1)

Pride Month is colorful on the surface, but behind it is a sad history of blood and tears.

Everything stems from the "Stonewall Incident" that occurred in New York City in June 1969.

At that time, sexual minorities were deeply oppressed in law and life, and the "Stonewall Inn" was one of their gathering places and safe havens.

On June 28, the police suddenly conducted indiscriminate raids and clashed with people present, leading to the "Stonewall Riots".

The origin of Pride Month (2)

After the tragedy of the "Stonewall Incident", a number of niche organizations sprung up and expanded to various countries.

In order to commemorate the casualties of the "Stonewall Incident" and call for public attention to the rights of sexual minorities, June every year has been called "Pride Month", brewing to become the United States (and the world) on the rights of sexual minorities. One of the most influential events.

The Stonewall Inn, where the incident occurred, is still in business and was officially designated as the 7.7-acre (3.1-hectare) "Stonewall National Monument" by President Obama on June 24, 2016.

Understand why gender diversity is important?

Promote sexual/gender diversity and let us understand that the differences between people are not just dichotomous, but as broad as a spectrum 🌈

Let everyone find their own position instead of limiting themselves to a certain framework 👊🏻

Understanding sexual/gender diversity will help us understand that everyone is unique❣️

If you want to gain respect, you must first respect others 🙏🏻

It’s not just about gender diversity

Each person’s sex/gender is an inalienable part of his or her identity, just like skin color, thoughts, and personality.

For a society to prosper, it must allow a hundred flowers to bloom and have enough space to accommodate everyone's existence, thoughts, and voices.

On the surface, Pride Month promotes attention to the rights of sexual minorities, but the spirit behind the system can be extended to other aspects of life,

Make society more tolerant of every independent individual and community.
